The Kariri-Xocó Woman – Guardian of Wisdom
In the Kariri-Xocó culture, women are more than just a supporting figure: they are the trunk and the root, the link that sustains and transmits tradition. Women are responsible for preserving ancient knowledge—the use of medicinal herbs, pottery, storytelling, caring for children, and preparing for rituals. They are also spiritual leaders, community organizers, and responsible for keeping life pulsating inside and outside the village.
In every daily gesture—from body painting to the transmission of songs—the Kariri-Xocó woman reaffirms her presence as the vital force of the culture.
Respecting them is recognizing that, behind each song, there is an ancestral voice that taught how to sing.
